Birth Partner Workshops
Being a birth partner is an extremely important job. It is a crucial role that plays a huge part in the well-being of mum and baby. The responsibilities are so much more than just the stereotypical images of holding mum's hand while she experiences contractions, or carrying the hospital bag in. While these jobs are important, the birth partner also has a very vital emotional, as well as practical, part to play. Their behaviour and attitudes can encourage mum to have a calm, confident labour or Caesarean section. All MummyNatal and DaddyNatal educators are committed to helping expectant parents find out how they can support each other during the birth of their baby. In our workshops we address their roles and responsibilities equally. If mum-to-be has attended one of my MummyNatal pregnancy classes she may already have a good idea of who could best support her, and how, during childbirth.
Who should be the Birth Partner?
This can be anybody who mum-to-be wishes to help her during her childbirth experience. Mum may choose someone who is not the baby's biological father to be present during the birth. That person could be the mother's partner, husband or wife, family member, best friend, or perhaps a doula or private midwife. It might be baby's father, plus a friend or doula. There is no rule about who your birthing partner should be, as long as mum feels relaxed and supported by that person, and whoever is there by mum's side is fully aware of the importance of the birth partner role.
What is the Natal Birth Workshop?
My in-depth workshop is for an expectant mother and whoever she chooses to have supporting her. This can be taught either with other couples in small groups in a Stockport location, or I can teach you privately in your own home. The Natal workshop will show both of you what to expect for mum during labour, as well as how a birth partner can offer practical and emotional support during pregnancy and labour.
The workshop will guide you through:
-the importance of the mind-body connection
-relaxation and managing stress
-breathing practise for birth
-childbirth physiology to demystify the experience
-practical birth positions and anchors
-preparing birth partner for their role during the pregnancy and birth
-birth choices and preferences
-interventions and how to cope with the unexpected
-use of B.R.A.I.N.
-communication and 'codes'
-male and female psychology during birth
